Welcome back to our Encouraging Concepts Bible study series focused on the powerfully PROPHETIC picture portrayed in the Old Testament book of Daniel painted as a panoramic landscape of World History in FIVE successions “written” in ardent ADVANCE some 2,600 years ago… “The Book of Daniel: Prophecy PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE!”
The Book of Daniel: Prophecy PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE (Chapter 11: Verses 44-45)
44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. 45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him – Daniel 11:44-45
OPENING POINTS TO PONDER: We now parenthetically move BACK in trying “time” to the “days” of heinous Herod in this wholly HISTORICAL narrative by virtue of where “he” had poignantly “planted” the tremendous “tabernacles” of his “palace” promised. With the parenthesis of pragmatic POLITICS being poised throughout the waning “world” now set BEHIND the distant “past” pondered, our final FOCUS now rightly returns again to this harmful Herod heralded specifically as “the king” to come. Incidentally, The apt antecedents of particular Pronouns are insightfully IDENTIFIED by the proper CONTEXT considered and not necessarily by the – Presumed PROXIMITY!
Herod Agitated!
“But” we find that towards the END of his languishing life, Herod was fully frustrated in his generated “great fury” to defiantly “destroy” in finding true “trouble” due to terrifying “tidings” coming from “out of the east” and EQUALLY from “out of the north” succinctly:
But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many – Daniel 11:44
Demonic DEADLY Decree!
These terrible “tidings” came PROPHETICALLY to the henchman Herod from the “east” arena to powerfully PROMISE the news that a rightful coming “King of the Jews” was boldly “born” right on “time” just as “God” Himself had PLANNED perfectly…
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not – Matthew 2:1-18
Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not – Jeremiah 31:15
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt – Hosea 11:1
BIBLICAL BACKGROUND: Here Herod and ALL of jaded “Jerusalem” were terribly “troubled” with the “tidings” they had “heard” from these wonderful “wise men” welcomed FROM the distant “east” ensue. And those migrating Magi were quite possibly influenced by the PROPHECY provided through “Daniel” concerning the pragmatic “prophet” named “Balaam” sent by the belligerent “Balak” to caustically CURSE insolent “Israel” in kind…
And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the Lord, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the Lord saith, that will I speak? And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days. And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth – Numbers 24:12-17
PROPHETIC PROMISE: And when mindfully “mocked” by these winsome ones, the horrible Herod was “exceeding wroth” and issued an ATROCIOUS deadly “decree” of doom. He woefully “went forth” with his “great fury” and caustically KILLED absolutely EVERY baby boy “two years old and under” throughout beguiled “Bethlehem” and neighboring areas…
Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not – Jeremiah 31:15
HISTORICAL HINTS: His deeply depraved oldest son Antipater of whom was resting in Rome to the “north” sordidly spread seditious LIES about his father Herod and secretly sought to ASSASSINATE him with poison potion. Upon hearing of this DEADLY diatribe, Herod had eventually found the alluring Antipater and abruptly KILLED him with a vexed vengeance. He then proceeded to brutally BURN the mighty Maccabean manager Matthias along with FORTY other faithful “Jewish” freedom fighters ALIVE after these mighty men destroyed the pagan golden Roman eagle insignia installed at the “temple” mount. He also gathered ALL the principal leaders of insolent “Israel” together and had them retained in the Hippodrome and gave the order that they were to be DESTROYED at his death. Therefore, all of “Jerusalem” would manically “mourn” as finally FITTING for its – FALLEN King!
A King is KILLED!
“And” eventually Herod had presumed to piously “plant” his personal “palace” placed “in” the “glorious holy mountain” majestically mined “between” the seismic “seas” setting. But “yet” he had HISTORICALLY came to a lonely evil “end” endured with “none” to wholly “help him” hold “his” hedge:
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him – Daniel 11:45
HISTORICAL HINTS: As it is HISTORICALLY held, Herod’s personal “palace” was a magnificent fortress attached to the “temple” itself with a secret passage BUILT into its stern structure. However, “he” was hotly HATED by absolutely everyone around him. WHY? Because this maniacal menace brutally BUTHCHERED even his own fledgling family – For PERSONAL Gain!
THEOLOGICAL THOUGHTS: These TWO separate “seas” surmised Sovereignly here are the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea as such PROPHETICALLY planned in which “Jerusalem” is soundly SET securely in “between” them as the “former sea” and “hinder sea” succinctly…
And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one – Zechariah 14:8-9
And this grand “glorious holy mountain” is rightly REPRESENTATIVE of the mighty “Mount Zion” (Moriah) as the “city of the great King” upon which Jerusalem was built as a righteous “refuge” residence REIGNING thoroughly throughout the “whole earth” by our “Great God” Himself…
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge – Psalms 48:1-3
Herod desperately DIED of the most horrible Divine disease directive. HOW? By being eerily “eaten of worms” to which could NOT be at all alleviated as such. WHY? Because “he” whole-heartedly BELIEVED himself to herald the vain “voice of a god” and NOT that of a mere “man” mitigated…
And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost – Acts 12:21-23
And Herod himself “gave up the ghost” within only ONE year from having SLAIN the chided “children” born in “Bethlehem” besieged. WHY? Because our Glorious “God” brought just JUDGEMENT upon “him” swiftly – NONE to Help!

Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together. Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you – Isaiah 41:21-24

REAL REFLECTIONS: The twelve chapters of “Daniel” are powerfully PROMISED prophecies depicting the unfolding
of the HISTORIC events of which will take place leading up to
the literal “time” of the SECOND awaited
physical “coming” of our loving “Lord Jesus Christ” back to the earth:
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever – Daniel 2:44
And our SERIOUS study of these PROPHECIES will rightly REVEAL to each student of God's wonderful “Word” that the events FORETOLD some 2,600 years ago could possibly be FULFILLED in the seemingly near future…
