Welcome to the CONCLUSION of our Encouraging Concepts Bible study series focused on the powerfully PROPHETIC picture portrayed in the Old Testament book of Daniel painted as a panoramic landscape of World History in FIVE successions “written” in ardent ADVANCE some 2,600 years ago… “The Book of Daniel: Prophecy PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE!”
The Book of Daniel: Prophecy PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE (Chapter 12: Verses 11-13)
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. 13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days – Daniel 12:11-13
OPENING POINTS TO PONDER: We have readily reached the climatic CONCLUSION of our superb “study” in the beneficial book of “Daniel” and its dedicated dictates. We have CAREFULLY considered its powerfully PROPHETIC parameters, its woeful WARNINGS wielded, its Sovereign SCRIPTURES surmised, its confident CONTEXTUAL connections and its HISTORICAL herald faithfully FULFILLED with incredible accuracy set forth fully “until” the enduring “end” of the “Jewish” jurisdiction within jaded “Jerusalem” set forth in the year – 70 A.D.
When aptly ADHERING to the linear limitations of these defined “days” for this intended trying turbulent “time” period perfectly PROPHESIED within the challenges set forth in Chapter 10 verse 14 through Chapter 12 verse 7 succinctly, the CONSECUTIVE nature of the political and spiritual events spanning throughout the HISTORICAL perspective concerning “Israel” are quite diligently described herein…
Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days – Daniel 10:14
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth forever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished – Daniel 12:7
And with the SCRIPTURAL use of the language lamented along WITH these vividly verifiable events aptly “accomplished” according to this horrible HISTORY held, we find their PERFECT projecting “finished” final fixed fulfillments found proclaimed PROPHETICALLY as precisely predicated within absolutely EVERY vexing verse – Verifiably VINDICATED!
Abomination of DESOLATION!
The 1,290 Days…
Here “Daniel” is now “told” that there would be 1,290 dire “days” determined BETWEEN the torrid “time” told beginning “when” the appalling “abomination that maketh desolate” is sordidly “set up” as such “until” the eventual END of the directed “daily sacrifice” is solidified:
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days – Daniel 12:11
HISTORICAL HINTS: This “abomination” of dire “desolation” is clearly a HISTORICALLY held rigorous reference to the INVADING insurgence of Roman armies adamantly advancing upon the “Hebrew” hoard. The demanded “daily sacrifice” of the “Jewish” jurisdiction had completely CEASED to be officially offered due to the LACK of appointed “Hebrew” helpers to aptly administer it as such per “Scripture” summation. And in accordance with this perfect PROPHECY pictured, it was on the 17th day of Panemus (Tamuz), July 70 A.D. as rightly recorded by the “Jewish” historian Flavius Josephus (see “The Wars of the Jews” VI 2:1) – DESOLATION Determined!
There are EXACTLY an allotted 43 whole months of 30 days (43 x 30 = 1,290) for a tallied TOTAL of those “thousand two hundred and ninety days” set boldly between these TWO enormous events of the “daily sacrifice” and the “abomination that maketh desolate” as eagerly encapsulated in wonderful AGREEMENT with this poignant – PROPHECY Proclaimed!
THEOLOGICAL THOUGHTS: The “abomination that maketh desolate” is quite clearly the Roman armies just as “Jesus Christ” Himself had plainly described as the “abomination of desolation” to come…
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be – Matthew 24:15-21
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take anything out of his house: And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days – Mark 13:14-20
And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled – Luke 21:20-24
Therefore, when “Jesus” had Sovereignly set the beginning of this tumultuous “time” period, His daring “disciples” could then EASILY gauge the approaching war’s progress – Perfectly PROPHESIED!
The 1,335 Days…
And there would be beautiful BLESSING for those who could “waiteth” for yet another 45 dire “days” for a total of these 1,335 days in full:
Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days – Daniel 12:12
HISTORICAL HINTS: The “city” of jaded “Jerusalem” was totally TAKEN and the heated hostilities subsided when the “wicked” woe-filled “Jews” desperately deserted their assumingly impregnable towers out of FEAR and gladly gave the advancing Romans the Holy “city” cited on the 7th day of Gorpieus (Elul), September 70 A.D. And no doubt General Titus and his troops were very surprised to find that the holdened “Hebrews” had fully FLED from their pious position posted. The ruling Roman armies under General Cestius Gallus had eagerly entered into the suburbs of “Jerusalem” according to this particular PROPHECY of woeful warning proclaimed. It had HISTORICALLY taken place on the 30th day of Hyperbereteus (Tisri), 66 A.D. The date November 17th is noted when the grandee General Cestius belligerently burned some of the suburbs, encamped at the royal palace and BEGAN his sordid siege on the upper “city” walls of “Jerusalem” for fully FIVE days. And although he could have totally TAKEN the chard “city” quite easily, it was on November 22nd (five “days” later), General Cestius had willfully WITHDREW his siege “without any reason in the world” assumed (see “The Wars of the Jews” II, 19:4-7, VI 2:1 & VI 8:4-5 & VI 9:1) – HISTOTY Heralded!
Of course, “we” keenly KNOW that the grand General Cestius himself had wholly WITHDRAWN his woeful wrath only by our guiding “God’s” predicated PROVIDENCE perfectly provided. WHY? Because it was according aptly to HIS greatly guarded GRACE granted of which appropriately ALLOWED these saved “saints” of the “Jewish” persuasion to fully “flee” from a dooming – Dire DEATH!
In fact, our “Lord Jesus Christ” Himself had poignantly PROPHESIED that those dangerous “days” would be completely “cut short” to perfectly PRESERVE the elusive “elect” envoy of bold “believers” biding from among the “Jewish” jurisdiction…
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened – Matthew 24:22
The beautiful blessedness told unto “Daniel” for the willful WAITING another 45 dire “days” was to allow General Titus the appointed “time” necessary in HISTORY to grant clemency to any “Jew” that was NOT found to be in arms against the rampant Roman rule as rightly recorded by Josephus (See “The Wars of the Jews” VI 9:1-2) – God’s GRACE Granted!
A Righteous REST!
“But” the devoted “Daniel” himself would NOT be directly affected by these “coming” events. WHY? Because at the “end of the days” he would be safely “standing” within the halls of Holy heaven:
But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days – Daniel 12:13
BIBLICAL BACKGROUND: Here “Gabriel” instructs the diligent “Daniel” to gladly “go” along his own “way” in long-lived life and devoted death departed “until” the eventual “end” of the jurisdiction held in “Jerusalem” had occurred some 525 years later. And “Daniel” was indeed a very OLD man between 80 and 95 years of age, having soundly SERVED under many earthly “kings” and maniacal “monarchs” mandated – Sovereign SERVICE!
Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens – Hebrews 11:33-34
And “Gabriel” eagerly encourages the aged “Daniel” with the final FACT that at his directed death he would be in righteous “rest” with the OTHER solemn “saints” in sweet Sovereign splendor alive unto ETERNAL life…
There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest – Job 3:17
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness – Isaiah 57:1-2
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them – Revelation 14:13
Therefore, “Daniel’s” loving “life” lived Divinely DEMONSTRATES that he fully “fought” the gracious “good fight” of fervent “faith” fathomed while fearlessly “finished” his “course” completely “kept” surely SECURE in soul…
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing – 2 Timothy 4:6-8
PROPHETIC PROMISE: The culminating CONCLUSIONS to the serious “study” of this beautiful book in PROPHECY proclaimed throughout human HISTORY are aptly “appointed” innumerable:
The “Scriptures” are totally TRUE by virtue of this fantastic – FULFILLED Prophecy!
The “Lord Jesus Christ” is indeed KING of His soon – COMING Kingdom!
The “God of heaven” is absolutely SOVEREIGN over absolutely – ALL Things!
Beloved, it is indeed a high HOLY honor to one “day” duly LEAVE this worldly place of vanity and vexation for a PERFECT place of righteous “rest” realized. And it is “good” for each of “us” to thoroughly THINK of going “our” wonderful “way” as our loving “Lord” takes us all – HOME in Heaven!
